The problem with this flood of information is that there are also a lot of false and exaggerated ideas that are circulating amongst the real approaches that can really help.

These false ideas can then gain some ground and people come to accept them as the real thing. That’s a sad fact, when you think about all those men and women who are trying to be fit but are just wasting their time because they are following a myth or worse yet, false science. The same thing is true when you want to know how to lose back leg fat, or thigh fat, or the fat deposited on the arms. There are some false ideas that have been accepted as the truth. Let’s take a look at some of these myths:

Spot Reduction- Spot reduction is the idea that when you do certain exercises that are targeted towards the places in your body where you want to lose the fat then that will work. For example if you want to lose fat from the back of your legs then you just have to do some exercises that will target that area and the fat there will be burned off. This is not true. The fat in your body is genetically distributed and doing leg exercises can burn fat it just won’t be all from the legs only.

Toning- Despite all the hype about toning, the truth is that there is no such thing. You cannot really tone the muscles. What you can do is to lose fat and then gain muscle bulk and that’s really what toning is. Your muscle tone or definition is not visible because it is covered by a layer of fat. Losing that fat and you will gain that muscle tone or definition that you desire.

High Reps- A lot of people think that doing a lot of reps of certain exercises can do the trick in burning more fat from the body. The truth is that the secret lies not in the number of reps that you do but in the load that you use especially for weight training. Each muscle has a threshold weight. If you use a weight that is below the muscle’s threshold it cannot produce your desired effects no matter how many reps that you do. That is the simple reality.

If you want a cardio workout, it is best to do some running, walking or jogging. High reps weight training exercises are not ideal for either burning fat through aerobic exercise or full building/toning your muscles.

Machines- Be careful when you are using machines for fat burning. Some of those machines make you move in an unnatural way. Instead of burning fat from your body, you might just end up hurting yourself. This can be especially true of those belted machines that make your jiggle or shake you. Using machines for weight training is great, but for fat lose, it is best to use the tried and true machines like treadmills, bicycles, stair climbers, rowers or ellipticals.

These are just some the most prevalent myths that have gained common acceptance today. One of the first things that you need to do when you want to lose fat is to find out the truth. You need to be aware of the right kind of exercises that you should do for losing back leg fat or any other fat. Finding the true and scientifically proven ways of fat loss is half the battle. Then just put it into practice and you’ll end up with the body you want!
